It took 10 minutes and 62 hot dogs for Joey Chestnut to win his fifth consecutive Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island.
Retaining the Mustard Yellow Belt once again, Chestnut of San Jose, Calif., has dominated the competition. In 2009, he set the all-time record, downing 68 hot dogs and buns, the equivalent of 21,000 calories, in ten minutes.
The 96th annual hot dog eating contest brought out thousands to the corner of Stillwell and Surf Avenues in front of the original Nathan's Famous hot dog stand to witness a spectacle of spittle so gross one can't help but watch.
The scene was reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, there was a man in a Dr. Seuss hat on stilts, a dancing plush hot dog and two two guys in orange tank tops bouncing on a trampoline. Many spectators came in their July 4th finest, there were men wrapped in American flags chanting "USA, USA!" and women wearing red, white and blue bikinis.
For the first time this year, Nathan's sponsored separate competitions for men and women. 100-pound Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, Va., took the title in the first ever competition for women, eating 40 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes, one shy of her 2009 record. She never stopped moving during the contest, constantly bouncing and twisting her way to victory. She shoved hot dogs in her mouth with one hand, while cradling a cup of liquid to wash them down with the other.
Thomas also known as "The Black Widow," was the odds-on favorite going into the contest, in 2009 she set the women's record by eating 41 hot dogs and buns during the joint competition.
The contest requires eaters to consume the entire hot dog and bun and any "reversal of fortune," Major League Eating's term for vomiting, results in an automatic disqualification.

Disney Trademarks ‘Seal Team 6′
In a perfect example of a big media company looking to capitalize on current events, The Walt Disney Company has trademarked “Seal Team 6,” which also happens to be the name of the elite special forces team that killed Osama Bin Laden.
Disney’s timing on this was almost like a Navy SEAL operation in and of itself. Don’t forget—reports state they’d filed the trademark application two days after it was announced. The kill was announced on a Sunday. Which means that Disney executives came into work on Monday, found the balls to ask one another, “Is there a merchandising opportunity in this murder?” and had the trademark application prepared and filed with the USPTO 24 hours hours later.

Deaf Men Stabbed Over Sign Language
Two hearing impaired men were stabbed in a Hallandale Beach bar Saturday night when another patron mistook their sign language for gang signs.
31-year-old Alfred Stewart, who is deaf and mute, and three others including a bouncer are recovering in hospital from non-fatal wounds suffered at the Ocean's Eleven Sports Lounge and Grill on Federal Highway, where Stewart and his friends were celebrating a birthday.
Police say Barbara Lee [not apparently a graduate of M.I.T.], became angry when she thought Stewart's party, all of whom are deaf, were throwing gang signs at her.
The 45-year-old confronted Stewart and his friends and made gang signs to them. Witnesses say they motioned for the "aggressive" woman to leave them alone.
Instead, Lee left and then shortly returned to the bar with a juvenile and 19-year-old Marco Ibanez, who is accused of pulling out a knife and stabbing the men.
In the ensuing melee, the hearing impaired men suffered stab wounds to the torso and back while the intervening bouncer whas struck on the head with a bottle.
Lee and Ibanez were taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Heart Attack Grill Diet
575-Pound Heart Attack Grill Spokesman Dies at 29
A 575-pound man who gained a measure of fame as spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill -- a Phoenix-area restaurant that unabashedly touts its unhealthy, high-calorie menu -- has died.
Friends of 29-year-old Blair River say he died Tuesday, possibly from contracting pneumonia after a bout with the flu.
Restaurant founder Jon Basso says that River was more than the larger-than-life caricature he portrayed in promoting the restaurant in Chandler, which includes huge hamburgers, milkshakes and fries cooked in lard on its menu.
Basso says River was a creative genius who had been planning to take part in the shooting of a promotional spot called, "Heart Attack Grill: The Musical."
"Even if he was skinny we would have given him the job," Basso told the newspaper. "We would have just put a fat suit on him. He just had personality."
The 6-foot-8 River was an Arizona state heavyweight wrestling champion in 1999.
At 575 pounds, River was considered to be morbidly obese, typically defined as someone who is more than 100 pounds overweight or has a body mass index of 40 or above. River's BMI would have been 63, which is calculated by multiplying a person's weight by 703 and then dividing it by his height in inches squared.
In addition to increasing a person's risk of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, obesity can also lower the immune system, make breathing difficult and make it harder to fight infections.

Woman tries to mail dog using Priority Mail
An 11-year-old boy will not be unwrapping a dead puppy as a birthday gift thanks to employees of a Minneapolis post office being witted enough to suspect something odd about a moving package, which tumbled off the counter.
Stacey Champion, 33, reportedly walked into the Loring Station post office on Feb. 1 with a box. She paid $22 to have shipped via the United States Postal Service's (USPS) Priority Mail shipping service.
Before the puppy [Guess] made his presence known, Champion told postal workers to disregard sounds they may hear coming from the box, because the package just contained a toy robot, according to Private Officer News. Robots, however, don't require air-holes in their boxes when being shipped, which Champion was at least thoughtful enough to add for Guess. Unfortunately, though, she taped over the holes while sealing the box.
Champion was tracked by the return address on the box and cited by Minneapolis police for misdemeanor animal cruelty and has 10 days to appeal and reclaim the dog. According to Sgt. Dodge, Guess is being held at the city's animal control facility and will be made available for adoption after the 10-day period. Dodge also said Champion has not yet contacted authorities to claim the dog.

Stuffed !
A New Jersey woman who hopes to become the fattest woman in the world got 30,000 calories closer to her 1,000lb goal with a festive feast that could have fed dozens of revellers.
The single mother-of-two tucked into two 25lb turkeys, two maple-glazed hams, 15lbs of potatoes (10lbs roast, 5lbs mashed), five loaves of bread, five pounds of herb stuffing, four pints of gravy, four pints of cranberry dressing and an astonishing 20lbs of vegetables.
After polishing off her enormous main course, she still had room for dessert and ate a 'salad' made of marshmallow, cream cheese, whipped cream and cookies.
Donna's two children, Devin, 14, and Jacqueline, three, enjoyed a more modest feast.
The 5'2 Donna defended her £150 meal, saying: 'I eat as much as I want, whenever I want but at this time of year I really go all out.
'Christmas should give you carte blanche to do whatever you want.'
Donna, who insists she is healthy, told the Sunday Mirror: 'People who feel guilty about eating are hilarious.'
She makes a living from being fat, getting paid to make public appearances and keeping a website where people can pay to watch her eat.
Already a Guinness world record holder for being the largest woman to ever give birth, Donna hopes to gain 25 stone more and officially become the fattest woman in the world.
She got the Guinness World Record as the world's fattest mother, when she gave birth in 2007 weighing 38stone.
She needed a team of 30 medics to deliver her daughter Jacqueline during a high-risk Caesarean birth.
