PROPER TELLY
Sherlock is a British television series created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. It is a contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. After an unbroadcast pilot was produced in 2009, the first series of three 90-minute episodes was transmitted on BBC One and BBC HD in July and August 2010 and later on PBS stations in the U.S. from 24 October 2010. A second series is scheduled to be broadcast in the UK in autumn 2011.
The first series of three 90-minute movies won the 2011 BAFTA Television Award for Best Drama Series. The titles were A Study in Pink, The Blind Banker and The Great Game. The next three titles due to be shown on BBC in the Autumn of 2011 are called A Scandal in Belgravia, The Hounds of Baskerville and The Reichenbach Fall.
The show has been described as a cross between Withnail and I and The Bourne Ultimatum.

James Spader in talks to join 'The Office'
The Office may have found a new boss: James Spader is negotiating with NBC to join the hit comedy next fall — but not merely as the manager of the Scranton branch.
The three-time Emmy winning Boston Legal star has been reportedly in the mix to replace Steve Carell for awhile, and even guest starred in the season finale as one of several celebrity contenders vying for the Dunder Mifflin manager gig.
But producers have a different role in mind for Spader: CEO of Dunder Mifflin, replacing Kathy Bates, who sources say will exit the show to focus on season 2 of Harry’s Law. “In the finale, he kicked ass,” says a source close to the show. “He was so funny and had this weird energy. We didn’t want to pass it up.”
The Office TV News - The Office Season 7 Finale - Search Committee Fail! Who Will be the New Office Boss? - 05/23/11 from SideReel on Vimeo.
Whereas Bates functioned more like a guest star in the series, however, Spader would have a significant weekly presence on the show. The actor’s deal is not done and no scripts have been written for the upcoming eighth season, which goes into production in about a month. Yet if all goes according to plan, Spader’s character — named “Robert California” — will be introduced in the premiere as the new Office manager. He quickly decides the role is too small for him, and somehow talks corporate into appointing him as its new CEO.
Sources say California will have a strong impact on the rest of the Office staff, demonstrating a manipulative power and a somewhat creepy sexual vibe:

What the Dickens!
Gillian Anderson is to star as a ‘sexually charged and alluring’ Miss Havisham in a radical television reworking of Charles Dickens’s classic Great Expectations.
The former X Files beauty is in talks to co-star in the three-part BBC1 drama which The Mail on Sunday can reveal will feature Hollywood hardman Ray Winstone as Magwitch and rising star Douglas Booth as Pip.
The BBC is planning what it calls the most ‘visceral’ adaptation of
the novel yet in an effort to win over a generation of viewers unfamiliar with the original.
Although Anderson, 42, is perhaps best known for playing Special Agent Dana Scully in the Nineties science-fiction series The X Files, she won great acclaim playing Lady Dedlock in the BBC’s 2005 adaptation of Dickens’s Bleak House, one of the finest television series of the past decade in my opinion.
She is one of several actresses in negotiation for the part of Miss Havisham and has yet to sign up, but insiders insist that she is the preferred choice.

Charlie Sheen 'Destroyed' by Ashton News
Charlie Sheen wasted no time on Friday to mock the decision to replace him on 'Two and a Half Men' with Ashton Kutcher, calling the 'That '70s Show' alum a "sweetheart" but a choice that would bring the show down. Despite his public show of gravitas, a source close to Charlie told the press that privately he's "destroyed" by the casting news.
Charlie said: "Ashton Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer. Oh wait, so am I!!" the actor told TMZ. "Enjoy the show America, Enjoy seeing 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB. Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there."
Ashton is expected to earn at least $750,000 per episode .... who's the winner now Charlie ?

I GUESS IT WAS DESTINY
As Stargate Universe draws to a close this week, many viewers are still wondering just what happened. Why was a show that has reached its creative zenith, and holding its own (relatively speaking) on a very competitive night of programming, kicked to the curb?
After just two short seasons, The Vancouver Sun reports that "Stargate Universe," the newest series in the massively popular "Stargate" sci fi franchise, has received the proverbial axe, effectively cutting off the franchise completely for the first time since it began as "Stargate SG-1" in 1997.
The original Stargate SG-1 dawned in 1997. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, the most-watched shows on TV that year were Seinfeld, ER, Friends, Home Improvement and Touched by an Angel. In the end, Stargate SG-1 lasted 10 seasons -- a full decade -- and in 2004 spun off the companion series Stargate Atlantis, which itself lasted five seasons.
Multiple theories have been posited to explain away the choice to cancel two of SyFy’s original series’, SGU and Caprica. Most agree (even Scalzi), however, that poor network scheduling is the main culprit, particularly the choice to move these shows from Fridays to Tuesdays. They were shucked aside in favor of the guaranteed revenue brought by WWE SmackDown on Friday Nights, which SyFy acquired rights to in 2010.
TV is a business, so it’s no surprise that the network values SmackDown over SGU. New shows still have to prove their worth, while SmackDown came with a Friday night audience. It’s simply bad business to put your best bet on the back burner.
The future looks bleak for "Stargate," but maybe they'll be able to eke out another movie or two before it's lights out.

BBC premiers first Doctor Who prequel webisode
In another first for Doctor Who, the BBC has this afternoon broadcast its first prequel webisode ahead of next month's launch of a new series of the long-running science-fiction drama series.
The webisode – which has been scripted by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat – stars Stuart Milligan (Jonathan Creek) as President Nixon, and acts as a teaser for what viewers can expect when the series returns to British and American television screens towards the end of April.

Look what's popping up on your favorite TV shows
At the beginning of the complicated legal thriller "Damages," a battered and bloody young woman named Ellen Parsons demands a lawyer from a seat in a police interrogation room. In flashbacks, this same brunet is shown fending off an attacker and then stumbling onto a gory scene of a butchered loved one.
Confused ?
Check the bottom of the screen. There you'll find some helpful hints that work like a cross between "Pop-Up Video" and CliffsNotes and signal a new way that networks are starting to give viewers a quick entree into complex shows. "Ellen is being held as a suspect in the murder of her fiancé, David Connor," says the first info bite, which is then followed by, "Ellen hasn't yet told the police she was attacked in Patty's apartment the same day her fiancé was killed."
The on-screen subtitles function as a primer of sorts, appearing every few minutes to flesh out a twisty plot turn or reveal a character's sinister motives. Taking a page from ABC's "Lost," satellite service DirecTV has recently started airing these enhanced versions of "Damages" on its 101 Network and the clues come from a true insider: a writer on the first three seasons of the show.
The approach, coupled with a dedicated website, made sense for a show that can be tough to follow, DirecTV executives said, especially at a time when TV audiences are easily distracted by gadgets and other entertainment.
"It's a way to say to viewers, 'It's not too late to get involved in this show,'" said Paul Guyardo, DirecTV's chief marketing officer. "And it might keep new viewers from throwing in the towel if they can watch episodes that give them extra background and context."
And there may be more transmedia outreach coming, given the fierce competition for viewers and the sky-high cost of TV production. Networks, cable channels and premium services are rolling out eye-catching ways to help their shows break through, such as tickers on the bottom third of the screen and live question-and-answer sessions via Twitter.

Terra Nova (TV series)
Terra Nova is an American sci-fi drama television series that is scheduled to air on Fox in 2011 as a fall series, and not in May as advertised.
The show begins in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction. In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a portal allowing travel 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they are unaware that the colony is in the middle of a group of carnivorous dinosaurs.

LIFE IMITATES ART
'Snoop' from The Wire Arrested in Drug RaidFelicia "Snoop" Pearson, who played a diminutive yet fearsome drug dealer and assassin on HBO's The Wire, was arrested along with more than 30 other people Thursday morning in a sweeping drug raid in Baltimore.
Pearson, 30, was taken into custody at an apartment downtown on a state warrant, reports the Baltimore Sun.
The pre-dawn raids, conducted by city, state and federal law enforcement, reportedly targeted a large-scale heroin and marijuana operation.
Pearson, who had a troubled upbringing, had worked as a drug dealer in Baltimore long before being cast on The Wire in 2002. At age 14, she was convicted of second-degree murder and spent more than six years in prison.
Thursday's arrests were part of a five-month drug investigation, according to officials.

MELTDOWN COMPLETE - ROLL ON A REALITY TV SHOW [called 2 1/2 Teeth ?]
Warner Bros. television terminates services of Charlie Sheen
American actor Charlie Sheen has been fired by Warner Bros as main cast of TV series "Two and a Half Men", effective immediately, the studio said in a brief statement.
The move was not unexpected, as executives at both CBS and Warner Bros. viewed Sheen's press assault as a scorched-earth move that made a reconciliation difficult.
Sheen's trouble started after the popular actor was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles, California last January for severe abdominal pain after partying the night before. Subsequent events showed Sheen entered an undisclosed drug rehabilitation center.
Sheen's absence from work in the popular TV sitcom had caused serious programming troubles for the network as well as lost opportunities for the crew of the TV series as they could not work in the absence of Sheen at the set.
The TV show -- in which Sheen plays a hedonistic bachelor -- had already been canceled for the rest of the season following Sheen's repeated attack on its producer, Chuck Lorre, two weeks ago.
Sheen notably referred to Lorre by the Hebrew translation of his name, Chaim Levine, drawing accusations of anti-Semitism. The actor then gave a series of rambling TV interviews, prompting his spokesman to quit.
In October last year, the popular American actor figured in an embarrassing situation where he was found naked and drunk in a New York hotel after partying with an escort.
Sheen, the star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men," has had past problems with alcohol and drugs that have landed him in legal trouble.
No decision has been made on the future of the long-running series, according to a spokesman of the studio.

US actor Larry Hagman to return in new Dallas TV series
US actor Larry Hagman, who became popular in a long-running TV series "Dallas" for his leading role as JR Ewing, will return to television's classic soap opera.
Hagman, who is now 79 years old will lead the cast as oil baron JR Ewing for a pilot show of the updated version of the soap opera which will be made by TNT.
Original stars Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray will also return to play Bobby and Sue Ellen Ewing respectively.
The new show will focus on the Ewing offspring - John Ross and Christopher Ewing - as they clash over the future of the family dynasty.
Reality TV World reports: "The original 'Dallas' ran from 1978 to 1991 and followed the Ewing family of Southfork. The modern story of 'Dallas' focuses on the Ewing offspring -- J.R. Ewing's son, John Ross, and the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing, Christopher -- as they clash over the future of the family dynasty," the cable network said in a news release Tuesday.
New characters include Jordana Brewster and Josh Henderson.
Hagman, Duffy and Gray will reprise their roles of J.R., Bobby and Sue Ellen from the original series, while Brewster will play Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross.

Mexican ambassador demands apology over Top Gear remarks
The Mexican ambassador in London has demanded an apology from the BBC over remarks made by Top Gear presenters, saying they were "outrageous, vulgar and inexcusable."
Eduardo Medina Mora complained about comments made when Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May were reviewing the Mastretta, a Mexican car, on Sunday's program.
"Why would you want a Mexican car? Because cars reflect national characteristics don't they?" Hammond said on the show.
"Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat."
Clarkson later said that they wouldn't get any complaints about what they had said because the Mexican ambassador would be "sitting there with a remote control like this," and he slumped down in his chair and made a snoring sound.
The ambassador did complain though.
He wrote: "The presenters of the programme resorted to outrageous, vulgar and inexcusable insults to stir bigoted feelings against the Mexican people, their culture, as well as their official representative in the United Kingdom.
"These offensive, xenophobic and humiliating remarks only serve to reinforce negative stereotypes and perpetuate prejudice against Mexico and its people."
Other comments by the presenters have resulted in complaints in the past, but their style of banter has also made the program very successful.
Some people were upset by scenes which showed Clarkson and Hammond wearing burkas in their recent Christmas special.
There were complaints last year after Clarkson said that when a woman wearing a burka tripped he had seen her red g-string and stockings.
In 2009 he called Gordon Brown a "one-eyed Scottish idiot." In 2008 there were hundreds of complaints after he joked about lorry drivers killing prostitutes.
The show was also criticised in 2008 after Clarkson and May were seen drinking while driving in the Polar Special.
The BBC said they would respond directly to the Mexican ambassador over the latest incident.
