PRE SEASON : CHELSEA 3-0 WYCOMBE

World-Cup winning striker Fernando Torres was on the scoresheet as Chelsea recorded a 3-0 victory over the Wanderers in a practice match at Cobham on Tuesday afternoon.

Yossi Benayoun danced through the visiting defence to open the scoring in the early stages and Nikki Bull produced a fine stop to deny Didier Drogba, while Scott Rendell missed Wycombe's best chance of the half from a tight angle.

Torres stroked home from 18 yards to make it 2-0 after the break before defender Slobodan Rajkovic finished well from close range. At the other end, Marvin McCoy drew a smart save from Ross Turnbull after out-pacing England left-back Ashley Cole.

Chelsea went close to extending their lead late in the second half but Salomon Kalou's low drive cannoned back of the post and Nicolas Anelka was denied by Steve Arnold from 15 yards.

Chelsea first-half XI: Hilario, Bosingwa, Van Aanholt, Terry, Kalas, Mikel, Kaby, Benayoun, Malouda, Kakuta, Drogba.

Chelsea second-half XI: Turnbull, Ferreira, Cole, Ivanovic, Rajkovic, B Clifford (Mellis), McEachran, Zhirkov, Anelka, Kalou, Torres.

Goals: Benayoun (4), Torres (52), Rajkovic (56)

Referee: Phil Dowd.

Roberto Di Matteo set to return to Chelsea as assistant manager

Roberto Di Matteo is set to return to Chelsea as No2 to André Villas-Boas when the Portuguese manager unveils his backroom staff this morning. The Italian, who spent six years at Stamford Bridge as a player, is the Portuguese's surprise choice as his assistant.

Di Matteo has been out of work since his sacking as West Bromwich Albion manager in February. The 41-year-old was dismissed despite having led the West Midlands side back into the Premier League from the Championship at the first time of asking. The Italian has been on gardening leave since, but is now expected to return to football as Chelsea's No2 as Villas-Boas reshapes the coaching set-up at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese is bringing two compatriots, José Mario Rocha and Daniel Sousa, with him from Porto to act as his physical fitness coach and chief opposition scout respectively but his initial hopes of being joined by Vitor Pereira in London were dashed when his former assistant was appointed as his successor.

Di Matteo is best remembered at Stamford Bridge for scoring his side's opening goal, after only 42 seconds, in the 1997 FA Cup final against Middlesbrough, and he was also a scorer in the 1998 League Cup final against the same opponents and, in 2000, against Aston Villa in the FA Cup final at Wembley. He also won the European Cup Winners' Cup and Uefa Super Cup while at the club before a triple leg fracture suffered against the Swiss club St Gallen in a Uefa Cup tie in September 2000 forced his retirement from the game at the age of 30.

His appointment as a No2 is eye-catching given that Di Matteo's experience as a player and as a manager is arguably more extensive than that of Villas-Boas, although he has spent less time working in a domestic top flight.

Will Andre Villas-Boas Accept Offer To Become Chelsea Manager ?

Andre Villas-Boas may accept an offer to become manager of Chelsea Football Club, according to reports in Portugal. Chelsea have reportedly agreed to pay the £13.2m release clause to get Villas-Boas out of his contract with Porto to head to west London.

Villas-Boas, 33, is no stranger to Stamford Bridge, having worked there under Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese coach has seen his stock rise after guiding the Dragons to domestic and Europa League success last season.

However, the Dragons insist as yet no deal has been done for his departure.

"So far this club has not received any communication that this clause has been exercised, nor of the agreement of the coach that is desired," a Porto statement read.

Despite their determination to keep hold of Villas-Boas, president Pinto da Costa admitted the club could not prevent their manager from leaving should certain financial conditions be met.

"Villas-Boas has a contract and a clause of 15million euros," he confirmed.

"If someone deposits 15million euros into our account and he wants to go, we can not do anything because it is something that is contractually specified."

While there has as yet been no official comment from Chelsea, reports suggest a £4.4m-a-year salary is on the table for Villas-Boas, who could bring star striker Falcao to Stamford Bridge along with him.

GUUS CRIES FOWL AS SOME SAY HE'S DUCKING OUT ON TURKEY !

Guus Hiddink remains poised for a remarkable restoration as Chelsea manager, refusing to commit his future to the Turkish national team and describing the notion of holding both jobs as “impossible”.

Hiddink is under contract for a further year with Turkey, who play a crucial Euro 2012 qualifying match against Belgium on Friday night, but he has become frustrated by the intermittent nature of international coaching.

It is expected that the call from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could come as early as Saturday, after Friday night’s match at Brussels’ King Badouin Stadium.

The Russian has already identified Hiddink as the outstanding choice to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, whom he sacked last month at the end of Chelsea’s first season without a trophy for three years.

Hiddink’s position is destabilised by the prospect of next month’s presidential elections at the Turkish federation. Incumbent Mahmut Özgener, with whom he has built a close relationship, is likely to be displaced.

Man United set to recall Howard Webb for crucial Chelsea clash

Manchester United are rumoured to be considering the recall of referee Howard Webb to their starting twelve for the crucial Premier League title clash against closest rivals Chelsea.

The club are considering the change after referee Chris Foy failed to award the league leaders a penalty for something or other in Sunday’s game against Arsenal.

“We’ll be looking at dropping Chris Foy for the Chelsea game,” revealed Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

“He did well to ignore Nemanja Vidic’s handball, but his failure to award us a controversial penalty in the 15th minute of stoppage time has cost us dear, but that’s something we can work on in training.”

“In the really big games you need a referee that can keep a cool head and reduce the opposing team to 10 men for the most innocuous of challenges, and there’s no-one better at that than Webby.”

Webb set for Man Utd recall

The Champions League finalists’ talismanic referee has revealed he will be ready to perform whenever he’s called upon.

Webb told reporters, “Obviously it’s down to the gaffer, but I’ll keep my head down and try my hardest and hopefully he’ll give me the nod.”

“If I do get the shirt for the game then one thing I can promise Man United fans is that I’ll give 100%.”

“That and a penalty in the 95th minute.”

Website dedicates itself to drought

It's the £50million question everyone at Stamford Bridge is wanting to know - Has Fernando Torres scored yet ? No is the answer but the most simplest of websites had dedicated itself to providing the latest updated information once it comes to hand.

Torres wears the number nine shirt for Chelsea, has played nine games but still the goals haven't flowed for the Spaniard.

Once considered one of the greatest scoring threats in world football, Torres is now considered one the great 'unluckys' to grace the Premier League.

The 27-year-old's time in blue was summed up perfectly in last night's Champions League loss to Manchester United when he had a header tipped around the post by Edwin Van Der Sar and hit the upright only to see the ball rebound back out into play.

But Chelsea fans can rest easy for when Torres eventually scores www.hastorresscoredforchelsea.com will be on hand to provide the definitive answer.
Currently the crisp white website reads in bold No, but hopefully as soon as he hits the back of the net it will read, Yes.

Fernando Torres shirts outsell Andy Carroll by 250-1

CHELSEA’S record £50million signing Fernando Torres is already king of the shirt sales – outselling his Merseyside replacement Andy Carroll by 250-1.

Demand for the new Torres home shirts are currently 40% higher than when he signed for Liverpool three years ago, according to suppliers.

Shirt sales for the Kop’s other new player Luis Suarez are 380% more popular than Carroll, but are still trailing behind Chelsea’s Spanish signing by 30-1.

Ray Evans, managing director of Kitbag.com, said: “It will be interesting to see whether Torres can maintain his popularity among Chelsea fans and whether Carroll can break into the hearts of the Liverpool fans.”
